Do you ever have those nightmares where your skin is covered in irregular pustulating holes that won't stop spreading until you wake up in a cold sweat?
Are you repulsed by pattern clusters like the ones found in seed pods or honeycomb?
Well, don't worry, you're not alone your fear. The aversion to clusters of objects, specifically holes, is something many people experience and, despite being invented by the internet around 2005, it's enough to thrust people into a full-fledged anxiety attack.
So, why do these seemingly innocuous holes make us feel incredibly nauseated?
Well, we're not entirely sure. Studies on Trypophobia are rare, but some scientists have hypothisized that we associate these unsightly holes with danger and disease, thus making it an evolutionary based trait.
But let's be honest here, we don't really need a scientific explanation for why we feel like barfing and then dying when we see these festering little cavities. All you have to do is imagine sticking your finger in one and BAM, welcome to the crater-hating club!
