12 Reasons You Now Have Cymophobia (Phobia of the Week)

There's a thousand reasons to be afraid of the ocean: between it's immeasurable depths and the creatures that lurk below, you'd think there'd be nothing left to fear. Except that's totally incorrect.

The fear of the waves and swells of the ocean is totally understandable for several reasons. Tlhe devistating affects of a tsunami (triggered by an earthquake, landslide or volcanic eruption that occurs underwater) or tidal wave (shallow water wave caused by the gravitational interactions between the sun moon and Earth) is enough to stear clear of coast lines for the rest of your life.

Tsunamis and tidal waves can reach a height of 100-1,000 feet (the record is 1,720 fucking feet and occurred in Lituya Bay, Alaska) and can get up to a speed of 500 miles an hour, as fast as a jet plane, so there's basically a 0% survival rate if you're on the shoreline. Oh, and they can reach about 3 miles inland.

And the scariest part is that a tsunami's first wave is usually not even the strongest, with each successive wave getting bigger and stronger as it travels across the ocean an entire ocean without losing any energy so those fuckers are probably the most powerful force on earth.

You can't outrun that massive wall of water, whether you're onland or in the water, no matter how hard you try. All you can do is look up in awe has a giant wave dwarfs you in it's shadow and bears down on you like 10,000 bricks.
