14 Popular Songs That Have Surprisingly Inappropriate Lyrics

undefined

Sometimes we just jam out to whatever song is playing without realizing the horribly inappropriate lyrics we're nodding along to. Next time you hear one of these songs, prepare to be depressed.

1. oxford_serpentine -- As if the song wasn't sad enough.

Had to explain to my dad that sarah mclachlan's arms in angel lyrics is about heroin addiction and overdose.

He was kinda of surprised.

2. noob622 -- Ha, who knew?

Macerena (Bayside Remix) by Los Del Rio, if you stop dancing and listen carefully to the lyrics, is about a girl cheating on her boyfriend and having a threesome with his best friends.

They played this song on my elementary school field day. We had to learn the dance in gym class.

3. Pasalacqua87 -- Depressing and happy at the same time.

"Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind. It's one of the happiest sounding songs of the 90's, but it's all about not feeling full enough from sex and drugs. Pretty depressing song honestly.

4. ACuddlyVizzerdrix -- Ah yes.

Afternoon delight, ever since that episode of arrested development

5. final_boss -- Elvis aint nothin but a hounddog.

"Jailbird 47 said to number 3, you're the cutest jailbird I ever did see

I sure would be delighted with your company, c'mon and do the jailhouse rock with me

Let's rock

Let's rock

Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock

6. single_cell -- Yeah this one's on the wedding DJ.

You know, when your cousin's 4 year old daughter asks you to dance with her at a family wedding, you don't really say no, but when the song is Meatloaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Light," you may feel just slightly weird about it. Maybe it's not the best answer to this question because it's obvious what the song's about, but maybe wedding DJs should save that one for the "after the old folks and kids go home" set.

7. -eDgAR- -- Damn, Dave Grohl REALLY loves it.

The Foo Fighters song "All My Life" is about going down on a girl, which definitely makes sense when you listen to the lyrics carefully.

Dave Grohl has even said in an interview, "That song is a little dirty. Use your imagination!"

Edit: This is from the song's wiki:

Grohl has said that the song is about how he enjoys performing oral sex on women. "['All My Life'] is a little dirty. I'm very fond of giving oral sex to women. It's a pleasure-giving experience - giving someone something that they'll remember for the rest of their lives, and if you do it right, they will."

8. Afireinside11 -- Childhood ruined.

My French wife's family road trip song was 'hey babe take a walk on the wild side.' They didn't know English but they would just roll merrily down the French countryside going 'doo dodoo dodoo doododo...'

She told me this and then I told her what the lyrics were. She was horrified and said I destroyed her innocent childhood memories.

9. TwistedMemories -- Ah yes, the classic tale.

Waltzing Matilda - it's about a man that commits suicide after he was accused of stealing and eating a goat. He drowns himself and haunts the bog afterwards.

10. AwwBiitch -- How did this happen?

Can't feel my face by The Weeknd won a kids choice award, literally about him doing cocaine. In another song he mentions that's he's not a kids choice referring to that I think

11. Andrakian -- Yeah, might wanna skip this one next wedding.

In my country, there's a stupid fad of playing Pearl Jam's Better Man at weddings, because there's a single line in it that says "can't find a better man" and other parts that sound sweet if you're a bad english speaker and put them out of context.

The song is actually about abusive husbands and the women that keep coming back to them.

12. fleastyler -- Uhhh, so that's disturbing.

The Vapors - "Turning Japanese"

"I've got your picture, I've got your picture /
I'd like a million of them all round my cell /
I asked the doctor to take your picture /
So I can look at you from inside as well"

13. eddiebax -- Yeah the young girl songs are creepy as hell.

A few things come to mind.

'Shake Rattle and Roll' is pretty dirty, but with the clean-up job Bill Haley gave it, it's juuuust subtle enough to be a well-loved hit that got a lot of airplay in the '50s.

Then there's a whole genre of 'young girl' songs which are especially creepy by current standards, eg. 'Young Girl,' 'Into the Night,' even 'I Saw Her Standing There.'

And 'My Sharona' is arguably in the young girl category, and also super unsubtle.

14. Sycou -- WHAT?!

Anaconda by Nicki Minaj is not actually about snakes.
