Since the election of Donald Trump in November 2016, America has seen a resurgence in activism and protests across the country - from the Women's March on January 21st to the nationwide protests surrounding President Trump's travel bans. So what better way for a brand to ingratiate itself with a passionate, activist youth than exploiting the aesthetics of protesting with soda and Kardashians?
Kendall Jenner and Pepsi aimed to accomplish this very thing with this extremely tasteful, not-at-all tone-deaf ad:
Naturally, the ad has a lot of people upset: namely due to its nice-ified take on activism and protests and the effects of a heavily-militarized police, it's grotesque level of product integration into marches centered on human rights and combatting injustice, and for its inclusion of one of the B-level Kardashians making cops and protestors get along thanks to a can of soda.
But instead of simply being angry at a really ill-advised ad, people are mostly just making jokes at Pepsi's expense:
