Mr. Krabs might have crapped all over SpongeBob's multi-colored Pretty Patties idea, but Burger King knows a good marketing gimmick when they see it. You might remember their black squid ink burgers from last year -- yeah, they were gross looking, but one doesn't order a black burger for visual appeal. You order a black squid burger to brag to your friends that you ate Burger King's weird gothic science experiment.
The masterminds at Burger King Japan have gone back into their fast food laboratory and emerged with the Aka Burger ("aka" means "red"). The burger comes in two (probably mediocre) flavors: samurai beef and samurai chicken. I'm not really sure what makes them "samurai" but tomato powder is what gives the burger bun and cheese its clown shoe red color.
Rumor has it they're eventually going to roll out all of SpongeBob's colorful burger creations. Hopefully they don't make your tongue glow after consumption.
