When you're at work, you've pretty much always gotta have a somewhat professional demeanor. I mean, unless you work at Google or Disney or something and employees are constantly playing human sized chess or whatever weird shit goes on over there. These workplaces were more traditional though, and these employees had their 'professional faces' put to the test with some bizarre situations.

1. LogicalBike -- The History of Smutty Literature: Volume I

I'm a translator and recently was asked to translate a magazine article about the history of smutty literature, talking about stuff like The School of Venus. This particular client speaks English quite well and actively reviews my translations, so I'll usually send her the file and then she'll send it back with comments or clarifications or suggestions for words she'd prefer that I use. That's how I ended up in a professional discussion about which terms to use to describe whipping in a BDSM context.

2. secondwind93 -- It has been cooked all flat-like and leafy.

An elderly lady complained to me that her broccoli hadn't been cooked properly. It was kale, and it had been.

3. Korps_de_Krieg -- And the Oscar for Hidden Rage goes to:

I found out my fiance had been cheating on me about an hour into a 12 hour overnight hotel desk shift.

I still want my Oscar for no customers seeing the inner turmoil of my life ripping itself apart through the veneer of customer service polish.

4. BruceLee1255 -- I am an Assmann, born and raised.

I was working at an internet provider when someone came in to pay his bill. Now, I've seen a lot of ridiculous last names and I've kept a straight face, but this time I couldn't help it.

His last name was "Assmann." I broke up laughing in front of him and apologized profusely. He was pretty chill about it and was like, "It got me a lot of action in high school."

For the record, he pronounced it "AHHS-men."

5. n3phtis -- Important Meeting Re: Dust Dick

My former boss called for a staff meeting because someone drew a massive dick in a dusty window in the back of the office.

6. drunkbabydinosaur -- I'm also getting heated on your behalf.

When a parent told me that the only reason I was a special education teacher was because I "wasn't good enough to teach normal kids." Even thinking about it now gets me heated.

7. treehouse1441 -- Sounds like this was handled the best way possible.

I used to work at a full service car wash and there were some complaints, so management hired a quality control guy who made more money than those who had been there for years who had never washed a car in his life, but nonetheless he was an extra pair of hands.

Every single day the guy wasn't only late, but like 2 hours late and since he was the managers friend they didn't fire him. And the cherry on top was that he drank too much the night before.

In the car wash realm, every person matters. If you're late, now the other guys there are stuck doing more work, but they don't get paid for it. 1 car in the bay is fine, but when 5-6 would pull up we'd be screwed. 15 minutes of extra work is one thing, but 2 hours!?

I don't understand how anyone could even be that late. I could drive to another state in that amount of time.

Anyway I finally had it and messaged the owner of the company and went off telling him how I thought it was bull crap and incredibly unprofessional. There's no way that guy should be making more than me. They finally fired him.

8. blink2356 -- Sir I must add more cloth for your mega-dong.

Now it's whatever, but when I was just starting out in costuming, it was mostly the ridiculousness of some of the fittings I had to do. You try not to, but sometimes you have to giggle when you're fitting some guy and talking very seriously about how much room he needs added to the crotch of his continental army issue knee breeches because he has a big dick, or have to try with all your might to not snap at a skinny ass broadway actor who's whining when you put her actual measurement down and not some weird vanity size she thinks she is.

9. MetalGilSolid -- Handled like a total RO

Oh jeez. A guy had an interview with my company and my coworkers and I were looking at his resume beforehand. We noticed that there were several spelling errors, including spelling 'project' as 'roject'.

So the guy comes in and I'm (along with a coworker) interviewing him, giving technical questions and whatnot (he wasn't doing that well). The guy's back is to the rest of my office and the wall is glass (so see through, obviously).

In the middle of the interview, a coworker on the outside looks at me and slowly raises a piece of paper from his desk, facing it towards me. On it is a single word in capital letters: "ROJECT".

I had to excuse myself to "get a drink of water" when in reality I needed to catch my breath to prevent myself from cracking up.

10. Back2Bach -- What a mean lady, threatening to spread gossipy lies.

I once had a piano student whose mother made him take music lessons.

After several weeks it became apparent to me that the boy's heart wasn't in it and that allowing his mother to force him to continue was not in his best interest.

When I explained this, his mother insisted that I continue teaching him - no matter what - and that if I didn't she'd "spread the word" that I had failed him as a student.

At that point, I told her to do whatever she felt she had to because forcing a student to study music against his wishes would do harm, long term, and that I wouldn't be party to it.

11. tapehead4 -- WHAT

I would say the coworker who took a fresh dump and placed it in the office microwave fits the criteria.

12. tokes_4_DE -- Pin drama.

Had a guy threatening to "put me on blast" on the facebook groups I actively sell / buy / trade pins on. He claims he ordered a pin from me months prior, and never received it. Well I go through all my PayPal transactions and theres not one that matches his name, nor ANY with money coming in that I didnt ship out. Finally find a transaction for him, and the reason he never got anything is because he ordered a pin, and then filed a claim for a refund within the next 3 days.... showed him this and he tries to say he never got a refund, even though it shows clear as day the money in / out in my account lines up. Finally made him log onto his PayPal and screenshot the transaction info, and wouldnt you know it, it says transaction cancelled, money refunded. Needless to say I was realllyyyy struggling not flipping out, as most of my income comes from this hobby, and your reputation means everything.

13. daveed2001 -- Perhaps we tape small pillows to our heads pre-excrement release?

We have meetings on accident prevention every time a major accident in our company happens. Every time.

Couple years ago a man straining too hard taking a shit passed out and fell forward leaving a large gash on his forehead and a concussion.

Imagine sitting around with 8 other people discussing how to prevent head injuries while taking a shit.

We're programed to feel sheer terror when we are startled awake by something in the middle of the night, whether it be a noise, or a flash of light or a physical sensation (if you've ever woken up to a spider crawling on your face at 2 a.m., you know what we mean).

Even as adults, the dark and it's ominous presense still make us fear monsters under the bed or ghosts in the attic. Most the time it's nothing...

...Most of the time.

We have a window AC unit basically right above our bed. One night, ice must have gotten built up inside, and it fell onto the fan that blows the air out. I remember hearing a loud bang and then being sprayed in the face by liquid. My first thought was that someone broke in and shot my wife and I got covered in blood. Fucking terrifying.

Edit: The liquid was cold, and that should have been an instant giveaway that it wasn't blood, but I was in such a panic and confused from just being woken up that the temperature didn't register right away.

3. GhostJames

I had stumbled downstairs to get some water from the tap at about 2am.

I look out of the window directly in front of of me and stare into pitch darkness (you can't see anything more than a few feet).

Turn the the tap off, look up and there's a dude's face just staring back at me. He's so close he's practically got his nose to the glass. A face that makes Gollum look like a model. This guy is obviously a serial killer (at least that's what my sleep addled mind was thinking).

I shit myself and just keep staring, he's also shitting himself and keeps staring. Until he starts pointing, he's pointing at the outside tap. He's pointing at the outside tap because he's a homeless dude who is getting water for himself and his friends who have started living in the woods nearby.

He smiles at me, this black toothed grin so I smile back and nod. He fills his water bottles and buggers off back to the woods.

Over the next few months I got to know them all and they were super nice. They'd come for water and I'd leave them little care packages of food until they moved on to somewhere else. Presumably to scare the shit out of someone else in the middle of the night.

TLDR: went to get water, a madman's face appears at the window out of the darkness. Turns out he's a homeless guy after water and not a murderer. So starts a beautiful (but brief) relationship.

4. stacybobacy

My daughter had a Ring Around the Rosie doll when she was little. You put the doll's hands together and it would sing the song. Anyway, she left it out outside one night apparently and the dew in the grass shorted it out. I woke up in the middle of the night to this faint Ring Around the Rosie song playing over and over.

It was creepy and we didn't have an outdoor light in the back yard so I had to go by myself with a flashlight and search the yard for this creepy doll.

5. judgemental-snail:

Someone slamming on the door of the apartment across the hall screaming "your apartment is on fire."

It sounded like it was on mine. Woke up and immediately started choking on smoke. The fire alarm then went off.

Everything ended up being okay (someone flicked a cigarette butt off their balcony, it landed on the one a few floors beneath it and set their patio furniture on fire, hence why someone saw it before the alarm went off). It was just so disorienting and terrifying to wake up to the pounding on the door, the screaming, and the smoke.

6. elguapo51

"OPEN UP! POLICE! WE HAVE A SEARCH WARRANT!"

It was about 6am, accompanied by banging that was loud as shit. Turns out it was for the apartment beneath my bedroom window but I sat straight up and my first thought was, "Oh no, they got me!" despite being one of the least shady people alive.

7. DaaaaamnCJ

Daughter had this Minnie Mouse baby doll that crawled on all fours when you touched a button on its back. Wife and I woke up at 2 am to the sound of the dolls creepy laugh. Went out to the living room and the doll was walking straight into the corner. Each time it stopped it would just start right over again. The button wasn't broken or anything, so i'm not sure what happened. Donated it.

8. lightknight7777

I'm sure there were worse things. But one time when I was a kid, my parents placed a full-body shaped Elmo balloon in my room while I was sleeping.

Ever woken up to a floating body...?

9. newo_ikkin_

Housemate coming home drunk after midnight from a Halloween party dressed as Jason from Friday 13th, walked into my room by mistake in his full Voorhees costume and just stood in the middle of the room looking around trying to work out where he was.

Woke me up as my door opened and I was frozen terrified for a good 30 seconds. Bought a lock for my door the following week.

10. janefromvegas

I lived w/ my oldest sister & her two daughters. Her youngest (3 years old) was a sleepwalker. She was tiny, white-blonde & liked to wear a white nightgown that was too big for her.

Yeah, wake up to the sound of thumb-sucking right next to my head, roll over & see the world's shortest ghost.

11. WorkRelatedIllness

We had a rooster who was pretty aggressive, but he watched the rest of the chickens. He was so aggressive though that only certain people could go near him otherwise he'd attack and spur. For awhile he had free reign of our yard, but we had to pin him because he'd attack people. Well, he'd figured out he could sort of halfway fly out and get back into our yard after we'd all gone to sleep.

One night we woke up to what sounded like a young girl screaming at the top of their lungs. We ran outside to see what it was and old Bach Bach (his name) was walking around decapitated. He'd picked a fight with a raccoon and lost, but that sound he made that night still haunts my dreams sometimes.

12. tenderfawn

Woke up to the feeling of something on my face, tried to brush it off and in my half asleep state thought it was attacking me. Cue absolute freak out because something is crawling all over me and i cant get it off, just for me to find out it was my own hand that had gone numb while i was asleep

13. IFudgedTheMath

My dinkus neighbor was drunk and thought my apartment was his. He broke the lock on my door. He then opened up the door to my bedroom and scared the crap out of me at 1am. I screamed and he apologized profusely and asked if I wanted to drink Modelo with him and his wife at their house. There had been a baptism so everyone was partying it up across the way. I went because they're nice, and they had tamales.

14. tav-la

My cat giving birth on the corner of my bed

15. arynaka

This is my favorite story to tell:

I'm absolutely terrified of a home invasion type of situation, I'll blame it on the copious amounts of true crime podcasts I listen to. So, when I'm home alone I constantly check the locks and sleep with a knife next to my bed.

Husband goes out of town for two nights, first night all is good. Second night I check the doors, lock my bedroom door and go to sleep. Well, I wake up at around 3am to the sound of the door rattling a bit. My first instinct is that it's one of the cats pawing at the door wanting out, but after I've fully woken up I realize it's someone trying to twist the door knob. I completely freeze, heart is racing, and I slowly reach for the light switch. I then start to think that maybe I don't want them to know I'm awake by turning the light on, so that maybe I can hide or grab my knife.

Our indoor doorknobs if you twist them hard enough will just pop open, so I finally hear it click and the door just barely opens about 5 inches. I can see the outline of a man standing there just barely lit from behind from moonlight coming in the living room sliding door. So I'm just sitting there in this frozen position with my arm halfway reaching for the light and the other half reaching for the knife for what feels like an eternity. He just stands there, staring in the door and I'm convinced I'm about to be murdered.

And then the door opens a little bit more, and the mans outline starts to become more clear. I manage to just barely whisper my husbands name, and hear back "Yeah, why is the door locked?" This asshole, had decided that the friend he was sharing a hotel with was snoring too loud and drove home 4 hours in the middle of the night.

We write a lot about irresponsible drinking habits here, since most of us have a tendency towards occasionally being irresponsible drinkers (but not all of us!) - and so it's always nice to hear there are others out there making wildly irresponsible choices (but, like, not DEADLY ones like DUIs) while drunk and having to deal with the consequences. It's the classic "Drunk You vs. Sober You" conundrum - basically a Jekyll/Hyde situation, where you're the same person but have two personalities, one of which tends to make a mess for the other. These are some of the best ones we've heard lately:

1. BPSteve

Got drunk, went to a taco shop, loudly exclaimed "fuck these tacos are awesome!" and then wrote a $400 tip on the tip line of my receipt. I honestly don't remember if I meant to actually tip 400 since the tacos were so good, or 4.00 and forgot the decimal, but I was able to get the charge reversed luckily since I was a poor college kid who didn't even have $400 in my account. Shit a brick when I woke up to overdraft alerts on my phone though

2. wydidk

I had just passed out and I must have gotten up to go pee, but the only thing I remember is being in the attic squatting and when I stood up my foot fell through the ceiling.

The next morning I woke up with scratches and bruises all down my leg and a huge hole in the ceiling with a pee stain around it. I honestly don't remember how I got up there.

What's crazy about it is, you had to walk through our closet on the other side of the room and climb a flight of stairs to get to the attic. The bathroom was 4 feet away from where I was sleeping.

3. ItsLikeHearthstone

Woke up to 20 dollars in my wallet, thought to myself "Fuck yeah, I left with $60 so I only spent $40"

Look at bank account and realize I took out $200 more throughout the night. Damn you drunk me, Damn youu!

4. islamabell

Throwing up into my crush's mouth while we were making out. That was the first and only time he brought me for a drink.

5. stealthxstar

Drunken Amazon purchases that I definitely did not need. Anyone want some little squishy stress toys shaped like various animals? I have 35...

6. IccyOrange

I thought my Xbox broke cause it wasn't ejecting the disk, and drunk me thinks he's a technical genius, so he tried to fix it.

Sober me found my Xbox in pieces the next morning, and spent $60 to get it repaired. Oh, and there was never even a disk stuck in it.

7. Guitarman9873

So I go to a Christian university where you are required to abstain from consuming alcohol (you need to sign an agreement and everything). I recently graduated so I don't really need to follow this rule but I am still living on campus so there is a bit of a grey area I guess.

Moving on with the story, I went out for a work related outing where your first 8 beers were free. So doing what anyone would do, I took full advantage of this opportunity. So 8 beers/cocktails later, we decide it's a good idea to hop to another bar a few blocks away. Being the new guy at work, I had to prove that I could knock back as much as anyone else in the company grabbing 3 jack and cokes at this new bar.

I want feeling so good so I decided to go lay on a couch that was in the corner. Next thing I knew, everyone was gone, I was smashed, and I didn't really know where I was. So I did honestly the best thing I could've done in that situation. So I walked to target. I was sitting in the entrance trying to ask my friends for help when a guy comes up to me holding a target giftcard in my face. He was offering me a $50 gift card for $20 cash and drunk me thought this opportunity was to good to pass up.

So armed with my giftcard, I try and purchase some chips and water to start sobering up. Long story short, the card doesn't work and I get escorted out as I was pretty visibly intoxicated.

After I was kicked out, I did the next best thing I could think of. I just started "walking home". So I was walking around a city for a little bit and soon enough, I was lost. I messaged my friends again for help and one suggested uber. Drunk me couldn't figure out how to get an uber.

So eventually I made it back. I honestly have no idea how I made it back but somehow I did. I made my way to the community restroom in the dorm hall, took off my pants so i was naked from the waist down and started vomiting. In the process, I guess I really had to shit. In the process of puking, I shit all over myself and the floor. I passed out in my own filth.

Eventually, I was awoken by a small voice saying to wake up and get out. So, I get up and walk out to find one of my friends working security who found me. So, covered in shit, I did my walk of shame to the security office, filled out some forms and walked back to my apartment.

The following weeks were some of the scariest in my life. I had no money and had the luming threat of being kicked out of my apartment. Nothing happened of it though. So I guess the worst thing that happened was losing $20 to a gift card that didn't work.

Also if you are reading this and had to clean up that bathroom, I am so sorry. Please forgive me.

Drunk me doesn't make good decisions.

8. LasagneLifestyle

underage drinking: at aged 16 i got drunk and scared my parents would catch me so i locked myself in the bathroom, evidently vomited everywhere and promptly fell asleep in my own vomit

i woke up at around 6:00am, saw the absolute mess i had created and proceed to clean up whilst still drunk

an hour later i was pretty happy with my cleaning and decided to go to bed, upon waking up a few hours later my mum said to me "so you vomited all over the bathroom?!?"

turns out i barely cleaned before passing out again

9. redwhiteandgold

Drunk me loves a drunken text.

Had been dating this guy, sent some messages when I was pretty (day) drunk. Cue guy being pissed off but giving me another chance. Was never really as good as the beginning after that.

Cue drunken me sending a message the week after we ended things for good saying I missed him.

Sober me apologised to sober him next day and said I'd delete his number. He told me to just stop texting weird stuff.

IF I COULD I WOULD, BABE. IF I COULD I WOULD.

But gin is just too nice.

10. meta_uprising

I came home super wasted and my roommate saw me laugh and say this asshole will never find this as I threw my wallet against the wall making it fall behind the couch.

11. chunkyasian

I put a glass half full of vodka next to the bathroom sink and forgot about it. The next morning, while hungover, I thought it was water and took a swig. I promptly started vomiting all over my bathroom.

12. Shitmybad

I 'woke up' to pee after having passed out wasted. Only problem was I didn't go to the toilet, I went on the stack of old VHS family video my girlfriend had in the corner of the room. She was not happy.

12 Stories of "Drunk You" Ruining Things For "Sober You"
